Dear Lions,
As I write this, Super Typhoon Haiyan has struck the Philippines, and is continuing to wreak havoc in central areas of the country. Some reports have indicated it is the strongest tropical cyclone to hit land in recorded history. Although it will take time to assess the damage from this storm, the potential for devastation cannot be overstated.
Lions Clubs International and the Lions of the Philippines are standing by to provide immediate disaster relief in the way of drinking water, food and temporary shelter.
We have shown the ability to provide immediate relief time and time again – in the United States, in Japan, in China and Australia, and all points in between. We serve – when needed, and where needed.
The reason we are able to react so quickly when called to action is because of your generosity. Your donations to LCIF enable us to have much needed funds available. We are sending emergency grants in the amount of US$30,000 today to the Lions of the Philippines. It will likely take a few more days to assess the impact and subsequent need, which will determine how much more funding may be necessary.
Your donations are needed. I know you join me in sending your thoughts and prayers to those in the storm’s path, and I know you will give generously to LCIF disaster relief so we can continue to react to this emergency and others that strike with little or no warning.
Sincerely,
Wayne A. Madden
Chairperson, Lions Clubs International Foundation
